Rayuan Lane III stopped Chase Brown a yard short of a first down with 50 seconds left to preserve Jacksonville’s 22–17 win at Cincinnati on Sunday, October 4. Two interceptions also helped the Jaguars withstand Joe Burrow’s 428 passing yards at Paycor Stadium.

The final completion stops short of a first down

Cincinnati reached Jacksonville’s 21 before three consecutive incomplete passes set up fourth-and-10. Burrow completed the next pass to Brown, but Lane ended the nine-yard play at the 12. That left the Bengals one yard short of earning a new set of downs.

The line to gain was Jacksonville’s 11-yard line. Reaching it would have extended the drive; Cincinnati was still five points behind and needed a touchdown. The yard-line illustration shows the distance required and where the completed pass ended.

Two interceptions change the scoring chances

Lewis intercepted Burrow late in the first half and returned the ball 45 yards to Cincinnati’s 18. Lawrence then found Brian Thomas Jr. for a seven-yard touchdown as Jacksonville built a 13–3 halftime lead.

Oluokun intercepted Burrow at Jacksonville’s 10 early in the fourth quarter, preserving a 16–10 lead. Cincinnati was six points behind, so the turnover ended a possession that had brought the Bengals within range of erasing the advantage.

The passing lines and the late rushing scores

Lawrence finished 18-of-23 for 227 yards and one touchdown without an interception. Burrow completed 39 of 54 passes for 428 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. The passing comparison keeps both quarterbacks’ yardage on the same scale, alongside their completions and attempts.

Chris Rodriguez Jr. extended Jacksonville’s lead to 22–10 with a 25-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. Burrow’s one-yard sneak then cut the margin to 22–17, leaving the Bengals a chance to win if they could get the ball back and score again.

Replay gives Cincinnati its final possession

Jacksonville’s Parker Washington appeared to have a long gain on a late third-down catch. Replay showed he had stepped out short of the first down, forcing a punt. That gave Cincinnati the final possession that ended with Lane’s tackle.
