Verity leads the weekend with $32.6 million as Digger opens at $8 million

Sunday estimates put Verity first and Digger fifth in North America. The new worldwide figures broaden the picture, but they remain preliminary ticket grosses.

Sunday estimates put Verity at $32.6 million in North America for October 2–4, ahead of Digger’s $8 million. The new reporting also puts Digger’s international opening at $12 million, bringing its worldwide debut to $20 million. These are full-weekend estimates, rather than Friday-only figures or Monday’s final domestic tally.

The weekend result extends beyond Friday

Sunday’s estimate extends the comparison from opening day to a three-day window. Boxoffice Pro lists Verity first, from 3,510 theaters, while Digger is fifth, from 3,321. Resident Evil and Heart of the Beast sit between them at $12.5 million and $11 million. Primetime narrowly occupies fourth at $8,000,085, so rounded $8 million headlines conceal a very small reported gap.

Our earlier report covered Friday receipts and Saturday projections. Sunday’s figures address the next reporting stage; Friday alone cannot describe the three-day weekend. These standings still describe ticket sales, without ranking film quality or determining which movie a viewer will enjoy.

Keep domestic and worldwide totals separate

Boxoffice Pro reports Verity’s worldwide debut at an estimated $62.6 million, comprising its North American opening and about $30 million overseas. Its Digger figures are $8 million domestic and $12 million international, or $20 million worldwide. Comparing one film’s domestic number with the other’s worldwide number would create a misleading advantage.

These are opening totals rather than lifetime receipts. They also represent different release footprints: each market’s calendar matters when comparing films across countries. Verity’s reported international total does not mean it has already opened everywhere; Boxoffice Pro lists later dates for territories including South Korea and Japan.

An estimate is still an estimate

The domestic weekend figures remain provisional. Variety reports that rival studios expect Digger’s $8 million estimate to come closer to $7.5 million when Monday’s final numbers are tallied. That competing expectation is not a confirmed revision, so the current headline retains the published estimate.

There is a smaller inconsistency in Verity’s worldwide reporting: Variety lists $62.5 million, while Boxoffice Pro reports $62.6 million. Both put its domestic debut at $32.6 million and international opening near $30 million. The difference should remain attributed rather than averaged into a new, supposedly exact total.

What the next report can resolve

The next useful update is the final domestic tally, followed by subsequent weekends and country openings. Those can clarify the preliminary ranking and the films’ staying power. A Sunday estimate cannot settle either release’s entire commercial run.

Gross ticket sales also do not flow wholly to the studio. Variety notes that cinemas retain a substantial share, while marketing and later revenue streams affect the eventual result. Subtracting a reported production budget from the opening gross would therefore produce a misleading profit or loss. The available figures establish a large opening gap; they do not provide a final studio balance sheet.
