SK hynix sets October 28 for shareholder-return details; reported 16 trillion won dividend is not final

The chipmaker says it is reviewing several return measures and will disclose additional steps with third-quarter results after a board decision. It has not confirmed the reported special-dividend amount, funding or payment terms.

SK hynix says it will disclose additional shareholder-return measures on Wednesday, October 28, after a board resolution and alongside its third-quarter results. The company’s regulatory response confirms the review and the timing, but not a specific payout.

A reported special dividend of about 16 trillion won remains unconfirmed. Until SK hynix publishes board-approved terms, the size, funding source, record date and payment method are undecided rather than announced facts.

The October 28 announcement is confirmed; the payout size is not

SK hynix said in a regulatory response that it is reviewing various measures to enhance shareholder value and plans to announce additional measures after a board resolution when it releases third-quarter results on Wednesday, October 28. The company did not disclose the form or amount. That distinction matters: an announcement date is not a dividend decision.

The 16 trillion won figure remains a media report

Reuters and ChosunBiz reported that a newspaper had described a possible special dividend of about 16 trillion won, potentially funded with gains associated with SK hynix’s Kioxia investment. SK hynix said nothing had been finalized. The possible amount, funding source, eligibility date and payment method should therefore be treated as unconfirmed until the board acts and the company files final terms.

The new measures would sit beside an existing return program

In August, SK hynix announced a 40 trillion won share-repurchase-and-cancellation program and raised its target to return more than 50% of cumulative free cash flow generated from 2025 through 2027. That framework allows a mix of repurchases, cancellations and cash dividends. The October 28 disclosure is expected to add detail; it does not erase or retroactively change the August plan.

Why Kioxia appears in the speculation

SK hynix invested in Kioxia’s predecessor business through a Bain Capital-led consortium in 2018. Reports now connect possible additional returns with gains from that investment. Reuters noted that SK hynix has not publicly disclosed the final details of the stake sale. Without a board-approved disclosure, estimates of the gain and assumptions about how much could be distributed remain calculations by reporters or analysts, not company commitments.

What readers should check on Wednesday

SK hynix’s official invitation schedules the third-quarter press release before 9:00 a.m. Seoul time on October 28 and the Korean-English conference call for 9:00 a.m. The useful primary documents will be the board resolution, regulatory filing and earnings release. Check whether the company specifies the instrument, total amount, record date, payment schedule and relationship to the existing free-cash-flow target. This article does not recommend buying, selling or holding any security.
