RTX Spark laptops start shipping: check Arm apps, memory and beta software first
The new Windows platform has reached buyers. The useful test is whether your exact working tools are ready, not whether the chip carries a large AI number.
NVIDIA announced RTX Spark laptop availability on October 16, while ASUS confirmed that selected ProArt P14 and P16 configurations began shipping in Canada. The move turns an announced Windows on Arm platform into a purchase decision, with different configurations and software stages to navigate.
An independent HP-based hands-on review adds an important qualification: platform capability and application compatibility are separate questions. Before replacing a working computer, identify the exact combination of hardware and software you need to finish a real job.
Buy the configuration that exists, not the maximum in a headline
ASUS separates shipping configurations from memory options scheduled for later in 2026. A family name on a store page is therefore insufficient: compare the full model code, installed memory, storage, operating system and delivery estimate on the actual order. Do not assume a high-end review unit describes the entry configuration.
The phrase up to 128GB also needs a workload attached. Unified memory is shared system capacity, not a promise that the entire number is immediately available to one model. Ask how much your operating system, applications and concurrent tasks leave for the intended workload. A fit demonstration should name the model, quantization and context settings.
Separate native beta support from a production-ready workflow
NVIDIA explicitly describes Photoshop and Premiere’s launch support as beta. That can be valuable for evaluation, but it does not establish that every production plug-in, codec or project will behave like your current setup. Preserve the working machine and test a copy of a representative project before moving a deadline onto the new platform.
Include the less visible dependencies in that trial: capture devices, printers, audio interfaces, project interchange and any vendor driver your work requires. Local AI still needs a network and permission decision
ASUS distinguishes fully local workflows from cloud-connected tools that may transmit data and incur fees. A laptop capable of local inference does not make every agent configuration offline. Trace the model endpoint, connected services and file access before using confidential work material.
For an initial trial, use a non-sensitive project copy and a narrowly scoped working folder. Decide what the agent can change, where outputs go and which network services are enabled. These are our suggested acceptance checks; we have not audited the bundled agents or established a security guarantee for them.
Use a finished task as the buying test
Choose one task that currently costs you time, then compare the entire route from input to usable output. Record the application build, project settings, installed memory, power mode and any cloud involvement. A feature that runs faster is helpful only if the rest of the job still completes correctly.
Keep the result separate from marketing maxima and another laptop’s review score. Confirm local delivery, return terms and the exact software path before committing. RTX Spark’s launch broadens the options for portable creation and local AI; the practical upgrade is the configuration that completes your work with acceptable compromises.
