Kylian Mbappé scored twice as Real Madrid beat Sevilla 4–1 at the Santiago Bernabéu on October 18. Arda Güler opened the scoring, Mbappé made it 2–0 before halftime, and Yan Diomande added the final goal after Sevilla briefly cut the deficit.

The win moved Real Madrid to 21 points, six behind LaLiga leader Barcelona and one behind Atlético Madrid. It was Real’s third straight victory in all competitions after the international break, one week before El Clásico.

Güler and Mbappé broke open the first half

Güler collected Diomande’s pass and drove a left-footed shot into the top corner in the 30th minute. Seven minutes later, Mbappé turned through the defence and finished past Odysseas Vlachodimos for 2–0.

Sevilla had appealed for a red card in an earlier incident involving Güler and Peque Fernández, but play continued and Real converted the next decisive chances.

Mbappé’s penalty settled the contest

As Sevilla pushed higher after halftime, Diomande found space and sent Mbappé behind the defence. Andrés Castrín brought the forward down, and Mbappé converted the penalty in the 63rd minute for his second goal.

Fede Valverde had made a key block moments earlier to deny Félix Correia, preventing Sevilla from reducing the gap before Real’s third goal.

Bueno answered before Diomande restored the margin

Substitute Manu Bueno scored in the 80th minute after Mbappé lost possession deep in Real’s half. Two minutes later, Diomande completed the 4–1 scoreline with a powerful shot after beating his marker.

Éder Militão entered in the 85th minute for his first appearance since hamstring surgery in April and received a warm response from the home crowd.

What the result changed

Real Madrid rose to third on 21 points, one behind Atlético Madrid and six behind Barcelona. Sevilla remained sixth on 14 points.

Those standings are the immediate result of a completed match, not a forecast. The three-game winning run does not determine the outcome of next Sunday’s match against Barcelona or the final league table.
