Rain98’s free Steam demo starts at the opening: scope and languages to check

The new build reaches the first half of Chapter 2. Its own store page lists nine text languages and Japanese audio; the rest of the chapter is still a planned update.

Rain98 now has a free PC demo on Steam that begins at the start of its story, rather than partway through an event showcase. The October 16 build covers the opening through the first half of Chapter 2, according to its dedicated listing and Gematsu’s release report.

That makes this a chance to try the narrative’s introduction. Keep the current download, the proposed demo expansion and the eventual full game separate when deciding what you will actually play.

What the current download contains

Developer C#4R4CT3R describes a mix of novel-style reading, dialogue choices and adventure interactions with Reina Amehara in 1998 Tokyo. The opening-to-Chapter-2 scope distinguishes this build from earlier demonstrations that began later in the story.

Treat that stopping point as the current scope. The developer plans to add the second half of Chapter 2; the reviewed materials do not give a firm date for that update.

Read the demo’s own language table

The demo page lists English, simplified and traditional Chinese, Japanese, French, German, Latin American Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese and Korean for interface and subtitles. Only Japanese is checked for full audio.

Choose based on that build’s table, especially if voice language matters to you. A text-language checkmark is not an English dub, and another product page’s features should not be silently transferred to the demo.

A demo page is a separate product view

Dedicated demo pages are an established Steam feature introduced in 2024. Rain98’s page is explicitly labeled Demo and offers Install Demo; use that identity when checking what you are adding.

The demo also carries the developer’s mature-content notice. Read it before installing if you are choosing for a particular audience; the lo-fi presentation alone does not establish age suitability.

Keep length estimates and release plans in context

Gematsu reports approximately three hours for this demo, while the developer expects roughly 10–15 hours for the full game. Those are estimates, not our measured completion times or a promise about an individual playthrough.

The report lists the full game for 2026 without an exact day. We did not install the demo, test performance, verify save transfer to the full game or confirm a console demo. Check the current demo listing and developer updates for changes.
