Zoo Atlanta’s New Giant Pandas: Ping Ping and Fu Shuang Enter Quarantine

The two giant pandas landed in Atlanta on a dedicated flight and are now behind the scenes. Their public debut has not been announced, but routine quarantine should last about a month.

Ping Ping and Fu Shuang arrived at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on September 27 aboard a dedicated FedEx Boeing 777. They are now in a biosecure area of Zoo Atlanta’s new giant-panda complex for routine quarantine expected to last about a month; no public-debut date has been announced.

A dedicated flight brought the pair from Chengdu

The pandas left Chengdu early Sunday and landed on the “FedEx Panda Express.” Zoo Atlanta said FedEx donated the transportation, and independent reports confirmed the arrival.

Quarantine comes before any visitor debut

The expected quarantine is around one month, but that is not a promised opening date. The zoo says it will separately announce the habitat details and when members and guests may see the pandas.

The agreement reopens Atlanta’s panda program

The Associated Press reports that the pandas are on a 10-year loan. Their arrival restores giant pandas to Atlanta after the zoo’s previous bears returned to China in 2024.
