Oklahoma beats No. 1 Texas 27–24: the final kick and corrected interception
Sandell’s 47-yard field goal decided the Red River game. A corrected AP report names Courtland Guillory for the late interception; an older team copy differs.

Oklahoma defeated No. 1 Texas 27–24 in Dallas on October 10, with Tate Sandell making a 47-yard field goal on the final play. Texas’ official recap independently confirms the result and distance. The corrected Associated Press report identifies Courtland Guillory as the player whose late interception set up Oklahoma’s winning possession.
Follow the fourth-quarter score, not just the final kick
Texas led 17–7 at halftime. Oklahoma cut the gap to three in the third quarter, then Lloyd Avant’s 2-yard run brought the score level early in the fourth. Peyton Bowen’s 42-yard interception return made it 24–17 for the Sooners with 10:07 remaining.
Texas answered with a 75-yard drive. Arch Manning’s 15-yard touchdown pass to Jermaine Bishop Jr. tied the game at 24 with 6:32 left. That equalizer mattered: the final field goal broke a tie rather than completing a comeback from a deficit on Oklahoma’s last possession.
Two late opportunities became one decisive possession
AP reports that Texas missed a 53-yard field goal before getting the ball back. Guillory then intercepted Manning with 19 seconds remaining. John Mateer completed passes of 13 and 20 yards to Isaiah Sategna, both upheld on replay review, before Oklahoma positioned Sandell for the winning attempt.
The current AP version includes an explicit correction naming Guillory. Oklahoma’s team-hosted AP copy still names Omarion Robinson in that sentence. Those copies are one reporting chain, not independent corroboration. The corrected name is used here; Bowen’s earlier scoring interception is a separate play.
The result does not automatically settle the next ranking
Texas’ own recap reports 238 Oklahoma offensive yards, including 83 rushing, and notes that a special-teams touchdown and a defensive score helped the Sooners win. Offensive yardage alone therefore misses how this game’s points were produced.
Oklahoma improved to 3–2 overall and 1–1 in the SEC; Texas fell to 4–1 and 1–1. No. 1 identifies Texas’ ranking entering the game, not a published postgame poll. AP lists Kentucky at Oklahoma and Florida at Texas as the next Saturday fixtures. Those are scheduled games, not completed results.
