Nintendo Switch Sports Resort launches exclusively for Switch 2 on October 22 with 12 listed sports. Nintendo’s latest roster adds Thumb Wrestling and Skateboarding, while AP’s current guide clarifies local and online player limits. The practical decision is not just the sport list: buyers should check console compatibility, controllers, room to move and online membership before launch.

The 12-event roster is now explicit

Nintendo lists Thumb Wrestling and Skateboarding as the two new activities. Ten returning sports are Power Cruising, Archery, Bowling, Table Tennis, Boxing, Prop Plane, Tennis, Volleyball, Basketball and Golf. Jump Rope appears as a warm-up activity in the announcement, but it is not part of the numbered 12-sport roster.

The two new events use different controls

Thumb Wrestling asks players to hold an opponent’s thumb down for three seconds. Skateboarding uses a Joy-Con 2 controller in mouse mode to steer and perform tricks. Returning activities use motion controls in different ways, so controller needs can vary by sport and player count.

Local and online player counts are not identical

AP reports that as many as four people can play together in the same living room, while selected online modes support as many as eight. Those are maximums for some modes, not a promise that every sport supports those counts. AP also describes an online pro league for boxing and solo champions and legends to face. Nintendo warns that extra controllers or accessories may be required for multiplayer.

The release is Switch 2-only

Nintendo says the game launches exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 on October 22. Its October 16 US announcement lists the standalone game at $49.99 and a system bundle at $529.99. These are listed US prices at the time of the announcement, not a guarantee for every region or retailer. Owners of the original Switch should not assume compatibility.

A pre-purchase setup checklist

Confirm that the console is a Switch 2, then check the controller and accessory needs for the sports and number of players you expect. For motion play, attach wrist straps and clear enough space around every participant. Online play requires a Nintendo Account, internet access and a Nintendo Switch Online membership, and service availability can vary by country. Finally, compare the standalone game with the console bundle rather than treating the bundle as required.
