Narnia’s First Trailer Is Here: When It Reaches IMAX, Theaters and Netflix

Greta Gerwig’s The Magician’s Nephew has a first trailer, but the film is not streaming yet. IMAX previews, the worldwide theatrical opening and Netflix each have a different confirmed date.

Netflix released the first trailer for Greta Gerwig’s Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew on October 13, 2026. The preview is available now, but the movie itself is not streaming yet. Viewers have three later dates to distinguish: limited IMAX previews on February 10, a worldwide theatrical opening on February 12 and Netflix streaming on April 2, 2027.

That sequence is the practical news. It makes this Netflix’s first global theatrical release and gives the film a substantial cinema window before it reaches the service. It does not yet provide local showtimes, ticket-sale dates or a complete theater list.

The trailer is out; the movie is not streaming yet

Netflix’s official first-look page presents the trailer and identifies the project as Gerwig’s adaptation of C. S. Lewis’s 1955 novel The Magician’s Nephew. The announcement sets April 2 as the Netflix date, so a viewer finding the trailer on October 13 should not expect the full movie in the service’s catalog. The trailer is promotional material for a release that remains months away.

February has two different big-screen dates

Netflix says IMAX-only sneak previews begin February 10, 2027. The worldwide IMAX and theatrical release follows on February 12. The two-day gap matters: February 10 is a limited preview date, not the general opening. AP and The Guardian independently report the February 12 opening and April 2 streaming date, while The Guardian describes the gap as an eight-week cinema window.

This is a different distribution test for Netflix

The official page says Netflix will distribute the film domestically and Sony will handle markets outside North America. AP reports that Netflix acquired the Narnia rights in 2018, and both AP and The Guardian identify this as the company’s first global theatrical release. That makes the plan more than a premiere event: the broad cinema run is part of the release strategy rather than a token qualification engagement.

What the first look confirms about the film

The trailer introduces Emma Mackey as Jadis and Meryl Streep as Aslan, with David McKenna and Beatrice Campbell as Digory and Polly. Carey Mulligan and Daniel Craig also appear in the confirmed cast. The story follows the children as they travel through magical worlds and encounter the events that lead to Narnia’s creation. Those cast and story details are confirmed; the trailer alone cannot establish the finished film’s quality or reception.

What viewers still need to check later

The reviewed announcements do not provide cinema-by-cinema availability, an exact ticket-sale date, premium-format pricing or local showtimes. Distribution outside North America also does not guarantee identical booking patterns in every country. Viewers who prefer a theater should use February 12 as the broad opening date and check local listings closer to release; viewers waiting for home access should use April 2 as the confirmed Netflix date.
