Monster Hunter Wilds Switch 2 demo lands October 19: save transfer, local play and one key limit
The free Prologue Demo includes the story opening and carries saves into the December 4 full game. It supports local multiplayer, but not online multiplayer.

Capcom has dated the Monster Hunter Wilds Prologue Demo for Nintendo Switch 2. The free download arrives October 19, 2026, ahead of the full game on December 4. Players can carry their demo save into the full release and use local multiplayer, but online multiplayer is not available in the demo.
The free demo launches October 19
Capcom says the Monster Hunter Wilds Prologue Demo for Nintendo Switch 2 will be released on October 19, 2026. It covers the opening of the story. The full Switch 2 game is scheduled for December 4, so October 19 is the demo date, not the retail launch.
Progress carries into the full game
Save data from the Prologue Demo can be carried over to the full Switch 2 version. That makes the demo useful as a head start, but only after the full game is obtained. Players should keep the demo save on the same console account and check the regional eShop listing for any transfer instructions.
Local multiplayer is in; online multiplayer is out
Both reports say the Switch 2 demo supports local multiplayer. Online multiplayer is not available in the demo. That distinction matters for groups planning to test the game together: nearby Switch 2 systems can be used, while an internet-based session is not part of this demo.
Pre-orders open with the demo
Nintendo Life reports that digital pre-orders open on October 19 as well. A demo download is free and separate from a pre-order. The Switch 2 release is scheduled for December 4, while the Ascendance expansion is due in 2027.
