Minecraft’s Sift Dimension: Java and Bedrock in 2027, Dungeons II on September 29

Mojang confirmed a new dimension for the main game, but its first appearance belongs to a separate release. Here is what the two dates actually mean.

The Sift is coming to Minecraft Java and Bedrock in 2027, Mojang confirmed during Minecraft Live on September 26. Players will encounter the dimension sooner in Minecraft Dungeons II, which launches on September 29. Those are two separate releases, not two dates for the same update.

That distinction is the useful starting point for anyone searching for the new dimension. The September launch does not mean a portal will appear in an existing Java or Bedrock world on September 29. Mojang has confirmed the destination for the main game, but not an exact release date or the method of reaching it.

Two games, two different release windows

Xbox Wire places The Sift in the September 29 launch of Dungeons II. The Minecraft Live recap separately confirms its arrival in Java and Bedrock next year. Buying or starting the dungeon-crawling sequel is not the same thing as receiving the main game’s future update.

Windows Central’s full event report corroborates both windows. Keeping the game names next to their dates avoids a misleading countdown: September 29 is specific, while the Java and Bedrock announcement still gives only a year.

A new dimension is not the same announcement as Ice Caves

The Sift will join the Overworld, Nether and End as another Minecraft dimension. Mojang showed a brief glimpse of its main-game version, rather than a complete tour of everything players will eventually find there.

The same broadcast also previewed Ice Caves for an upcoming game drop, with icicles, ice crystals and a frozen zombie variant. Those caves are a separate biome announcement. Combining them with The Sift into one supposedly imminent update would erase the distinction in the official recap.

Portal instructions are still unconfirmed

Beebom’s report explicitly says Mojang has not revealed how players will enter The Sift in the main game. Xbox Wire likewise leaves open how that version will work and how it will differ from the dimension in Dungeons II.

Details about rifts and travel in the sequel therefore do not establish a working Java or Bedrock portal recipe. Players should treat instructions that promise access now as unconfirmed unless they are tied to an actual Mojang release or test announcement.

What to watch after the reveal

The next fixed milestone is the September 29 Dungeons II launch. It will let players explore that game’s interpretation of The Sift; it will not settle every unanswered question about the later Java and Bedrock implementation.

For the main game, the useful follow-up is an official dated release or test announcement explaining availability and entry mechanics. Until then, 2027 is the announced window—not a confirmed day, and not evidence that every feature shown in the sequel will carry over.
