Meta Launches Enterprise AI Platform, Hires CJ Desai to Lead It

Meta is creating a new enterprise AI business around Muse, Business Agent, APIs and coding tools, and it has hired MongoDB CEO Chirantan “CJ” Desai to run the effort directly under Mark Zuckerberg.

Meta is turning a collection of AI products into a dedicated enterprise business. The company launched Meta Enterprise Platform on September 28 and hired MongoDB president and CEO Chirantan “CJ” Desai as chief enterprise platform officer, reporting directly to Mark Zuckerberg.

The important change is the umbrella, not the existence of every product inside it. Meta says the new enterprise organization will bring Muse, Meta Business Agent, Muse API, Muse Code and other parts of its AI stack to companies and developers. Several of those components already existed before the September 28 announcement, so this is better understood as a new enterprise go-to-market and product-integration layer rather than a simultaneous launch of all those tools.

The new thing is the enterprise umbrella

Meta’s launch statement says the Enterprise Platform will focus on bringing the company’s full technology stack to businesses and developers. It specifically names Muse, Meta Business Agent, Muse API and Muse Code, alongside Meta’s models and infrastructure.

That matters because Meta had already been shipping pieces of this stack separately. Meta Business Agent Platform was introduced earlier as infrastructure for companies to build and deploy agents in WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram, while Muse launched as a personal AI agent. The September 28 announcement creates a higher-level business that can package those pieces for enterprise deployments.

Desai gives Meta an enterprise-software operator at the top of the effort

Desai’s new title is chief enterprise platform officer. Meta says he will report directly to Zuckerberg and lead the effort to make the company a place where enterprises can scale their businesses with Meta’s AI stack.

His background is closely aligned with that task. Before becoming MongoDB CEO, Desai led product and engineering at Cloudflare and spent nearly eight years at ServiceNow, including as president and chief operating officer. Reuters and CRN both frame the hire as Meta importing enterprise-software operating experience, not simply adding another AI researcher.

MongoDB gets the immediate leadership disruption

Desai’s departure leaves MongoDB changing leadership again less than a year after he became CEO. CRN reports that former CEO Dev Ittycheria returned as interim president and CEO while the database company begins a search for a permanent replacement.

Reuters reported a sharp same-day share-price reaction to Desai’s departure. That market move is evidence that investors treated the leadership change as material, but it is not a judgment about MongoDB’s long-term prospects and should not be read as investment advice.

What Meta still has to prove

Meta’s launch language is ambitious: it says the enterprise platform can help companies grow and transform by combining models, agents, infrastructure and Meta’s existing business relationships. Those are company goals, not independently demonstrated outcomes.

The practical test will be whether enterprises can deploy the stack with the reliability, security, privacy controls, integrations and support expected from established enterprise-software vendors. Meta says security and privacy are built into the products from the outset; the launch itself does not establish how widely customers will adopt the platform or how it will compare with rival enterprise AI stacks.
