Manchester City hold off Brighton 3–2 after Bunny Shaw brace to make it six WSL wins from six
City scored three times in the opening 17 minutes, Brighton cut the margin to one before halftime, and the leaders protected it through a scoreless second half.

Manchester City Women beat Brighton & Hove Albion Women 3–2 on October 18, extending their perfect 2026–27 Women’s Super League start to six matches. Bunny Shaw scored twice, Niamh Charles added City’s third, and Brighton answered through Olivia Garcia and Caitlin Hayes before halftime.
City reached 3–0 in 17 minutes
Shaw opened the scoring in the fifth minute from Lauren Hemp’s cross and headed in another Hemp delivery in the 16th. One minute later, Charles drove forward from left-back and finished City’s third.
The three-goal burst was complete before Brighton had settled into the match, but it did not turn the remainder into a rout.
Brighton reduced the gap before halftime
Garcia scored from close range in the 31st minute after City blocked her first attempt. Six minutes later, Hayes headed in from a corner to make it 3–2.
All five goals arrived in the first half. Reuters and the official report agree that neither team scored after the interval.
The second half became a game of control
Brighton had long spells of possession after halftime, while City continued to create chances for a fourth goal. Shaw was denied once and sent another attempt narrowly wide as she pursued a hat-trick.
City did not restore a two-goal cushion, but kept Brighton from completing the comeback and carried the one-goal advantage to full time.
Charles opened her City scoring account
The 17th-minute goal was Charles’s first for Manchester City. Her finish immediately followed Shaw’s second goal and ultimately became the match-winner.
That milestone should not obscure Brighton’s response: the visitors turned a possible runaway into a one-goal contest within 20 minutes.
What the completed result changes
City have 18 points from six WSL matches, two ahead of Chelsea after Chelsea’s 6–2 win over Tottenham. The figures describe the table after the completed October 18 matches, not a title forecast.
Manchester City next travel to Manchester United on October 25. The 3–2 result confirms a perfect six-game start; it does not guarantee that run will continue.
