No. 10 LSU beat No. 23 Texas A&M 35-6 Saturday night at Tiger Stadium, breaking open a one-score first half with 21 third-quarter points. Sam Leavitt completed 17 of 23 passes for 312 yards and two touchdowns, while LSU’s defense held the Aggies to 197 total yards and no touchdowns.

The decisive snap came on fourth-and-1 near midfield early in the third quarter. LSU sold a run look, Jackson Harris slipped behind the defense and Leavitt hit him for a 57-yard touchdown that made it 21-3. Texas A&M never recovered, dropping to 2-2 overall and 0-2 in the SEC as LSU improved to 3-1 and 1-1.

A fourth-down shot turned control into a rout

LSU led 14-3 at halftime, then faced fourth-and-1 near midfield on its first possession of the third quarter. The Tigers showed a run look, Harris delayed as if he were blocking and then released into open space. Leavitt found him for 57 yards and a touchdown, stretching the lead to 21-3.

Texas A&M answered with its own fourth-and-1 attempt from its 34-yard line and was stopped. LSU converted the short field into another touchdown, and backup quarterback Landen Clark later added a second rushing score. The Tigers put up 21 points in the third quarter while the Aggies managed only a 54-yard field goal.

LSU’s defense kept Texas A&M out of the end zone

Texas A&M finished with 197 total yards and 11 first downs. Starting quarterback Marcel Reed completed 10 of 26 passes for 106 yards with one interception, was sacked four times and did not account for a touchdown.

LSU finished with 506 total yards. Leavitt supplied 312 through the air, and Harris turned six catches into 163 yards and two scores. Clark, rotating in after Leavitt’s hamstring problem, rushed for 41 yards and two touchdowns.

The result flips the mood after two rough Saturdays

LSU moved to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the SEC, responding to the previous week’s 32-24 loss at Ole Miss. Texas A&M fell to 2-2 and 0-2 in conference play after its second straight defeat, following a 31-21 home loss to Kentucky.

The score also reversed the tone of last season’s meeting in the same stadium, when Texas A&M won 49-25. That contrast is useful context for the rivalry, but one lopsided result still describes one Saturday rather than guaranteeing what either team will do next.
