Iridium Q3 revenue rises 8% after Aireon deal; why the profit jump needs context

Revenue reached $245.7 million and service revenue grew 13%, but a $103.9 million acquisition gain explains most of the increase in net income.

Iridium reported third-quarter 2026 revenue of $245.7 million, up 8%, and net income of $106.9 million. The net-income comparison is unusually acquisition-sensitive: the company attributes $103.9 million to a gain related to buying the rest of Aireon.

Aireon expanded service and hosted-payload revenue, while OEBITDA edged down and net debt reached $2.1 billion. The results therefore show both the added revenue base and the financing and accounting effects of the transaction.

Revenue grew, but the profit jump was mostly accounting

Iridium reported $245.7 million of third-quarter revenue, up 8%, and $106.9 million of net income versus $37.1 million a year earlier. The company says $103.9 million of the increase came from a gain related to its Aireon acquisition, so the headline profit comparison does not represent the same increase in recurring operations.

Aireon lifted service and hosted-payload revenue

Service revenue grew 13% and represented 76% of total revenue. Commercial service revenue rose 16% to $159.9 million, while hosted-payload and other data-service revenue increased $22.7 million, or 121%, primarily because Iridium began consolidating Aireon after the July 2 closing.

OEBITDA slipped even as subscribers increased

Operational EBITDA was $135.6 million, down from $136.6 million a year earlier, partly because of $4.5 million in higher cash-incentive expense. Billable subscribers reached 2.696 million, up 6%, led by commercial Internet-of-Things growth.

The acquisition changed both ownership and financing

Iridium acquired the remaining 60.5% of Aireon for an aggregate purchase price of about $366.7 million. It assumed a $154.7 million credit facility and deferred half the purchase price through a $183.4 million interest-free seller loan due one year after closing.

Rocket Lab deal is approved by voters, not yet closed

Iridium shareholders approved the pending Rocket Lab acquisition with 99.6% of votes cast in favor, representing 81.4% of outstanding shares entitled to vote. The companies still describe closing as subject to remaining regulatory approvals and other conditions, so the quarter should be read as Iridium operating independently while a separate transaction remains pending.
