Dollar Tree recalls 360,500 balloon pumps: model 406198 and refund steps

Dollar Tree and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission have recalled about 360,500 electric balloon pumps because the units can overheat and create a burn hazard. The notice covers one specific pink-and-blue pump, model 406198; it is not a warning about every electric balloon inflator.

Consumers should stop using the affected pump immediately. People who bought it in a Dollar Tree store can return it to any Dollar Tree location for a full refund. Online buyers should contact Dollar Tree to obtain a prepaid shipping label and return the pump for a full refund.

The recall was announced October 1, 2026. The pumps were sold nationwide at Dollar Tree stores and online through dollartree.com and doordash.com from August 2025 through July 2026 for about $17.

How to identify the recalled pump without testing it

Look for a compact plastic pump with a pink body, a blue carry handle and two inflation nozzles. The recalled product has both continuous and touch-on modes. Those visual clues narrow the search, but the model number is the decisive identifier.

Model 406198 appears on the silver rating label attached to the bottom of the pump and also on the retail packaging. Check the label while the product is not in use. There is no reason to plug in or run a suspected pump merely to identify it.

If the colors look similar but the model number is different or unreadable, do not guess. Use Dollar Tree’s recall page or contact the retailer at 877-530-8733 or ddirect@dollartree.com for product-specific guidance.

Why model 406198 was recalled

The CPSC says the pump can overheat and pose a burn hazard. Dollar Tree received three reports of overheating. One report described flames inside the unit, and another described the unit exploding.

No injuries had been reported when the recall notice was issued. That does not make continued use safe: the remedy is to stop using the product, not to wait for visible damage or try to reproduce the failure.

The recall is listed as CPSC recall number 27-012 and as a Fast Track Recall. The product was manufactured in China and sold by Dollar Tree Stores Inc. of Chesapeake, Virginia.

Choose the refund route that matches how you bought it

For a pump purchased at a physical store, the official remedy is straightforward: return it to any Dollar Tree store for a full refund. The CPSC notice does not say that the return must go to the original location.

For a pump bought online, contact Dollar Tree before shipping it. The company will provide a prepaid shipping label so the recalled product can be returned for a full refund. Do not pay an unknown third party for a label or send the unit to an address that is not supplied through the official recall channel.

The recall notice does not specify whether a receipt or the original package is required. Rather than assume, ask Dollar Tree what documentation is needed for your purchase route. Keep any order email or purchase record available if you have it.

What to do now

First, stop using the pump and keep it out of service. Second, compare the number on the bottom label with 406198. Third, use the in-store return route or contact Dollar Tree for the online prepaid-return process.

Dollar Tree’s recall contact number is 877-530-8733, available from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Sunday. The recall email is ddirect@dollartree.com, and the company’s product-recall page is the safest place to check for updated instructions.

The official notice does not instruct consumers to repair, open or troubleshoot the pump. Its remedy is to stop using the affected product and follow the appropriate return instructions.
