Disney’s Netflix deal starts October 4: what is global, temporary or region-specific
The first two Percy Jackson seasons and five Ice Age films reach Netflix worldwide on October 4 for three months, while Will Trent, Tracker and selected Disney/Pixar films follow on different dates and in different regions. The deal adds Netflix access; it does not move Disney’s whole library or remove these titles from Disney-owned services.

Disney is putting a selected group of its movies and television series on Netflix under a new licensing agreement, but the rollout is narrower and more complicated than “Disney’s library is moving to Netflix.” The clearest part begins October 4: the first two seasons of Percy Jackson and the Olympians and all five existing Ice Age films will be available globally on Netflix for three months.
Everything else requires a title-by-title and region-by-region check. Some television series arrive later in 2026 or 2027, Tracker is licensed outside the United States, and selected Disney and Pixar films are scheduled for early 2027 with launch dates and regions that may differ. Disney also says most Disney-branded titles remain exclusive to its own platforms and channels.
October 4 has two global three-month windows
The first two Percy Jackson and the Olympians seasons will join Netflix worldwide on October 4. The window lasts three months and is designed to give viewers time to catch up before season 3 premieres on Disney+ on November 20. That means Netflix subscribers should not assume the first two seasons will remain indefinitely.
The same October 4 start date and three-month duration apply to the five existing Ice Age films. The temporary window leads into the theatrical release of Ice Age: Boiling Point, scheduled for February 5, 2027. “All five” refers to the five previously released feature films; it does not mean the forthcoming Boiling Point movie will stream on Netflix during this window.
For both franchises, the useful action is simple: if a Netflix catalog in the viewer’s region shows the titles on October 4, note the three-month limit rather than adding them to an open-ended watch list. Availability pages can change, so the title page in the viewer’s own Netflix account remains the final practical check.
Will Trent and Shifting Gears follow on separate schedules
The agreement also covers current television series produced within Disney’s television portfolio. TheWrap reports November 3 for Will Trent and December 1 for Shifting Gears. What’s on Netflix identifies December 1 as the U.S. Shifting Gears launch and reports January 7, 2027, for international regions.
Those dates should not be collapsed into a single worldwide release promise. A U.S. subscriber and an international subscriber may see different launch dates, and a catalog may not expose a title page until closer to release. Viewers should search the exact series name while signed in to the account and region they intend to use.
The licensing windows are intended to broaden the audience before new seasons arrive on Disney-owned networks or services. That context explains why older seasons may appear on Netflix without giving Netflix the newest season or permanent exclusive rights.
Tracker is an international Netflix license, not a U.S. addition
Tracker is a particularly important regional exception. TheWrap reports that the first three seasons will be licensed to Netflix outside the United States for multiple years. What’s on Netflix gives February 26, 2027, as the international start date. U.S. subscribers should not read this as confirmation for their domestic Netflix catalog.
This is also why screenshots or articles from another country are not enough to verify personal availability. Netflix catalogs vary by territory, licensing date and account location. The safe confirmation is the title page displayed for the subscriber’s own region, preferably with a release reminder or availability date.
Selected Disney and Pixar films begin in early 2027
Soul, Elio and Raya and the Last Dragon are among the films included in the agreement. Reuters reports that the selection begins appearing globally in early 2027, but exact launch dates and regions vary. That wording matters: it does not establish one universal day when all three films become available everywhere.
The agreement also includes older series such as Felicity, Revenge, Army Wives, Fresh Off the Boat and This Is Us. Their availability likewise depends on the announced market and timetable. A list of licensed titles is not the same thing as a promise that every title will appear in every Netflix country at once.
Netflix access is additive, not a Disney+ exit
The licensed titles will remain on Disney+ or Hulu while they are offered on Netflix. The arrangement therefore gives some viewers another way to watch selected titles; it does not announce the closure of Disney’s streaming services, the removal of the titles from Disney-owned platforms or the transfer of Disney’s full catalog.
Disney continues to emphasize a Disney+-first approach for most of its branded library while using selective third-party licenses to reach additional audiences. Large franchises such as Marvel and Star Wars are not part of the announced slate. Readers should avoid using the deal as evidence that any unlisted Disney title is coming to Netflix.
What subscribers should verify
Before changing or canceling a subscription, check four things in the Netflix account that will actually be used: the exact title, the country catalog, the displayed start date and any removal notice. For Percy Jackson and Ice Age, remember the three-month limit. For Will Trent, Shifting Gears and Tracker, confirm the region-specific date. For the early-2027 films, wait for a local title page instead of treating “early 2027” as a fixed launch day.
The bottom line is that the new deal is real and substantial, but it is a scheduled, selective and partly regional licensing package. The October 4 global windows are the most definite immediate change; later additions need a catalog check closer to their announced dates.
