Caleb Williams returns as Bears hold off Falcons 31–23
Williams threw for 305 yards after missing three games, and Kyler Gordon's late strip-sack stopped Atlanta's comeback from a 31–7 deficit.

Caleb Williams completed 30 of 36 passes for 305 yards in his return from a three-game absence, leading Chicago to a 31–23 road win over Atlanta.
The Bears led 31–7 early in the fourth quarter before the Falcons pulled within eight. Kyler Gordon's third sack produced a fumble with 2:54 left, allowing Chicago to close out the game.
Williams was sharp after missing three games
Caleb Williams returned from a hamstring injury and completed 30 of 36 passes for 305 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions. His 111.2 passer rating came after a three-game absence, but the completed result—not a forecast about the rest of his season—is the useful measure.
Chicago scored touchdowns on its first two possessions. Williams began 10-for-10 for 122 yards and found Colston Loveland for the opening score before D’Andre Swift's first rushing touchdown made it 14–0.
Chicago built a 31–7 cushion
Swift added a second touchdown after Josh Blackwell recovered a muffed punt at Atlanta's 10. Roschon Johnson scored from four yards late in the third quarter, and Cairo Santos' 50-yard field goal on the first play of the fourth pushed the lead to 31–7.
The margin rested on offense, defense and special teams. Chicago finished with 368 net yards and held the ball for 40:08, while Atlanta had 257 yards and 19:52 of possession.
Atlanta made it a one-score game
Michael Penix Jr. threw fourth-quarter touchdown passes of 10 and five yards to Kyle Pitts. Atlanta converted two-point tries after both scores, shrinking a 24-point gap to 31–23 with 5:41 remaining.
The comeback changed the pressure, not the winner. Penix finished 19 of 33 for 225 yards and three touchdowns, while Pitts caught five passes for 60 yards and two scores.
Gordon's third sack ended the rally
With Atlanta back in possession, Kyler Gordon recorded his third sack of the game and stripped Penix. Devin Bush recovered at the Falcons' 28 with 2:54 left, and Chicago ran out the clock.
The Bears improved to 4–2 and Atlanta fell to 2–4. This report is limited to the completed October 18 game and does not treat the comeback, Williams' return or either record as a prediction.
