Barcelona beat Real Betis 5-2 at La Cartuja in Seville on Saturday, October 17, with five different scorers extending their LaLiga start to nine victories from nine matches. Lamine Yamal, Rodri, Gabriel Jesus, Eric García and Dani Olmo supplied the goals; Valentín Gómez and Ez Abde replied for Betis.

The final three-goal margin hides a tighter middle of the contest. Betis had cut the deficit to 3-2 before Facundo Bernal was sent off, and Barcelona needed goals from García and Olmo to turn that one-goal lead into a decisive finish.

Two first-half leads, with an equalizer ruled out

Yamal put Barcelona ahead with a curling finish from outside the area, but Betis answered when Gómez headed in Pablo Fornals' cross. Rodri then restored the visitors' advantage by heading home from a Fermín López corner.

Betis briefly thought they had reached the break level when Gio Lo Celso's volley went in. The effort was disallowed for a Cucho Hernández handball earlier in the move, leaving Barcelona 2-1 ahead at halftime. That distinction matters to the score progression: the disallowed effort was not a second Betis goal.

A second disallowed goal preceded the decisive turn

Jesus also had an effort ruled out for offside after the break. His subsequent valid goal, supplied by Yamal's low ball from the right, made it 3-1. Abde quickly answered on the counterattack to bring Betis back within one.

Bernal then received a straight red following an altercation involving Yamal; Reuters reports that Yamal was booked. Barcelona had already scored three goals before the sending-off. The dismissal changed the conditions of the remaining contest, but it does not explain every Barcelona goal or erase the threat Betis posed at 3-2.

García and Olmo supplied the separation

Barcelona's fourth came from the aftermath of a Yamal free kick. Pau Cubarsí sent the ball back across goal and Eric García finished from close range, restoring a two-goal cushion against the ten-man hosts.

Olmo, introduced as a substitute, completed the scoring with a shot from outside the box. The resulting sequence, shown with Barcelona first, was 1-0, 1-1, 2-1, 3-1, 3-2, 4-2 and 5-2. Both the club's full report and independent Reuters coverage support that order; individual goal minutes are omitted where their accounts differ.

What the ninth win changes

Reuters puts Barcelona's league return at 27 points and 39 goals after nine games. Nine wins account for the points total at three per victory. The five different scorers at Betis also make the result broader than a single player's finishing display.

The league count should remain separate from the club's wider competitive schedule. Barcelona's official report identifies Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid as the next opponents on its agenda, but this result alone cannot establish how those matches will unfold or where the title race will finish. The immediate verified outcome is another league win in a game that was still a one-goal contest after Abde scored in the second half.
