Endgame retakes global box-office lead after Encore reissue
Disney’s October 4 estimates put Endgame $1.8 million ahead of Avatar worldwide. The latest weekend sits inside the reissue and lifetime totals.

Avengers: Endgame has moved back above Avatar in reported lifetime worldwide box-office revenue. Disney’s October 4 estimates put the 2019 film at $2.9255 billion, compared with Avatar’s $2.9237 billion, after the Avengers Endgame: Encore theatrical reissue.
The record is a lifetime measure, so Encore’s current run is already included in Endgame’s new total. Separating that run from its latest weekend explains the change without counting the same receipts twice.
A narrow lead in the current estimates
Expressed in millions of dollars, the reported totals are $2,925.5 million for Endgame and $2,923.7 million for Avatar. Subtracting the latter from the former gives the $1.8 million lead; that difference is an editorial calculation from the published figures.
Disney explicitly describes Endgame’s new total as an estimate. The ranking therefore captures the reported position on October 4, with a narrow margin that later revenue updates can change. It does not establish a permanent lead.
One weekend inside the reissue, inside the lifetime total
The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline put Encore’s second weekend at $4.4 million domestically and $14.4 million overseas, adding to $18.8 million worldwide. Deadline separately reports $126 million for the full Encore engagement so far: $36.2 million domestic and $89.8 million overseas.
Those are different time spans, not separate amounts to add together. The $18.8 million weekend is part of the $126 million run, and that run contributes to the $2.9255 billion lifetime figure. Adding the reissue total to the lifetime figure again would count its revenue twice.
The two films have exchanged this record before
Endgame first overtook Avatar in 2019. Avatar moved back ahead after its 2021 re-release, according to The Hollywood Reporter’s account. The new October 4 development is another change in the lifetime worldwide ranking, following Encore’s second weekend.
Worldwide and domestic rankings are separate. Deadline lists Endgame third in domestic lifetime receipts, at $894.6 million, even as it retakes the worldwide lead. Its new global position should not be read as a domestic No. 1 claim.
How to read the milestone
The figures measure ticket-sales revenue in dollars. They do not provide an inflation-adjusted comparison, a count of admissions or studio profit. A revenue ranking answers a narrower question than which film sold more tickets or earned more money after costs.
Disney links the Encore engagement to Avengers: Doomsday, scheduled to reach theaters on December 18. That supplies the release context for this run. The present milestone is Endgame’s reported lifetime worldwide lead; Doomsday’s future box office is not established by it.
