Auburn stuns No. 1 Georgia 27–24 on Alex McPherson’s final-play field goal
Georgia erased a late deficit but lost a fumble with 58 seconds remaining. A roughing-the-passer penalty helped set up McPherson’s 34-yard winner as time expired in Athens.

Auburn rallied from 14 points down to beat No. 1 Georgia 27–24 in Athens after Alex McPherson converted a 34-yard field goal on the final play. The kick followed Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton’s third turnover of the game.
A fumble with 58 seconds left changed the ending
Georgia had tied the game at 24–24 and was driving for a possible go-ahead score when quarterback Gunner Stockton lost the ball on a run from Auburn territory. Safety Sylvester Smith-Reed recovered at the Auburn 44 with 58 seconds remaining. A roughing-the-passer penalty on Georgia’s Gabe Harris Jr. then moved the Tigers into range, and Alex McPherson made a 34-yard field goal as time expired.
Auburn answered a 14–0 first quarter
Georgia scored 14 points in the opening quarter, but the official line score shows Auburn winning the next two quarters 10–0 and 7–0. Georgia added 10 points in the fourth and Auburn added the final three. The arithmetic matters: Auburn’s 27–10 response after the first quarter produced the 27–24 final rather than a wire-to-wire upset.
Byrum Brown gave Auburn two dimensions
Quarterback Byrum Brown completed 15 of 26 passes for 150 yards and a touchdown, and he added 115 rushing yards and a score. Receiver Christian Neptune also threw a touchdown pass to Keshaun Singleton. Auburn finished with 192 rushing yards and 174 passing yards, while converting both fourth-down attempts.
Georgia moved the ball but turned it over three times
Georgia outgained Auburn 440–366 and held a slight possession advantage, but Stockton’s two interceptions and late fumble supplied the decisive contrast. He completed 22 of 34 passes for 272 yards and two touchdowns. Georgia’s official game center lists 327 team passing yards, which includes all team passers; the 272 figure is Stockton’s individual total.
The historical marks are specific, not forecasts
The result moved Auburn to 4–2 overall and 2–2 in the SEC, while Georgia fell to 6–1 and 4–1. AP reported that it was Auburn’s first win in Athens since 2005 and its first road win over the nation’s No. 1 team since 1994. It also made consecutive weeks in which an unranked team beat No. 1 for the first time since 1990. Those are completed-game facts; this report does not predict the next poll or playoff field.
